Erice

Erice, an ancient medieval town and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is located on the top of an isolated mountain (750 m above sea level), at the northwestern end of Sicily, 10 km far from Trapani, in a delightful panoramic position. A wonderful synthesis of art, history and landscape, the intact medieval center of Erice is harmoniously integrated with the splendid surrounding nature. The urban layout has a perfect triangular shape and is enclosed on the western side by cyclopean walls, interrupted by towers and by three Norman doors: Porta Spada, Porta del Carmine and Porta Trapani. The summit can be reached by car but also by the cableway Trapani-Erice in ten minutes, with a beautiful view on Trapani, its environs and salt-pans and on Aegadian Islands.
